Like many web sites,
ArtPerk
was born when creators Salam Dahbour and Missy Loewe could not find just the right
site on the web to search for juried shows, save those searches, then somehow remember
what they had found. Available artists’ sites did not offer the ability to save
searches, search for just one type of media, or they charged under-funded artists
to see their listings.
So, the pair set out to build the best, most efficient and helpful site for both
artists and posting organizations. Their collective experience in writing web sites
and working with (and as) artists aided in site design. They have entered shows,
juried shows, unpacked shows, hung shows, and over the years learned what artists
and sponsoring organizations want and need in order to do what we’re all supposed
to do – bring people together to share, discuss, purchase, and enjoy artist’s work.
Salam Dahbour has over 20 years experience in software and website design and works
as a freelance software developer, web designer, and photographer. He teaches digital
photography, digital workflow, and other technology and photography courses at Washington
School of Photography. His photography has won juried show awards, and his client
list includes numerous wedding couples, plus numerous corporations in the Washington,
DC area.
Missy Loewe is the academic dean at Washington School of Photography and board president
of Capitol Arts Network. She has authored and contributed to numerous books, and
consults with artists and nonprofits on legal and business matters. Having juried
dozens of shows, managed over 75 gallery openings, and lectured and judged with
numerous art groups, she is dedicated to making
ArtPerk
the best online source for artist business and promotional help.
The pair plan to grow and develop
ArtPerkthe site
based on the needs and suggestions of artists and sponsoring organizations across
the country and the world. Soon, the site will feature discussion forums, articles
on art business formation and success, even better ways to search, art related news
feeds, and more interactive features to help you grow as an artist and as a sponsoring
organization.
