The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition presents Wide Open 4, a national juried exhibition and sale. It runs May 11 to June 16, 2013, in 8,000 square feet of our Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Carrie Springer, Senior Curatorial Assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, will serve as the show’s juror.

A portrait is meant to capture the essence of the subject. However, despite all details being in plain sight, a portrait can also raise a great deal of questions; What does that smile mean?  What kind of person are they? Mischievous? Lighthearted?  From their facial expression to telltale scars, from their wardrobe to what they hold- these are cryptic symbols left for the viewer to ponder and attempt to decipher.

For this online art exhibition, we’re looking for portraits, both in traditional and non-traditional styles and mediums, that communicate about the subject being portrayed.  How will you present your subject?

The New York Center for Photographic Arts (NYC4PA) invites photographers world-wide to submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, color etc.). Sanchez Art Center (SAC) seeks California artists (18 and older) for its fifth annual 50-50 Show. Accepted artists will create 50 small works (6” x 6”) over the course of 50 days.  The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University announces a regional juried exhibition entitled Ohio-All Media, a juried exhibition created as a showcase for Ohio artists working in any media, traditional or experimental. $1000.00 in AWARDS. Open to artists at least 18 years of age residing in Ohio. A maximum of three entries for $25.00 are allowed per artist.
