Story behind McGee's new works
This recent oil spill has affected my painting and is revealed in the colors and images of my new show. Water is a central part of our very existence. It not only is crucial for us to stay alive it enriches our aesthetic experiences. Looking out over the ocean or sitting next to a babbling brook restores a sense of inner beauty and contentment with the world. I hope that my new works will make others ponder this incredible resource and realize that we must act to protect all our precious water resources. We must guarantee it will always be a part of our existence for many future generations; not just for drinking, but also for our aesthetic existence. I want to always know ... ( Read more)

My work is a personal journey of exploration into the realm of the spiritual through the alchemy of paint, color, light, texture and the poetics of space.
My paintings are records of this intuitive journey. My paintings are densely layered compositions made over time with numerous layers of thick and thin washes and glazes. I start with calligraphic-based gestural marks, solid forms and shapes which then begin to disintegrate as the layers explode and implode, are added, rubbed out, re-applied, scoured into and scraped away and built back up, expanding and ... Vittorio Sella (1859 – 1943), a legend in mountaineering and photography, began photographing in the Alps from his home in Biella, Italy. Over his lifetime, he photographed many of the major mountain ranges all over the world.
This exhibition, curated by Tony Decaneas, highlights a selection of photographs taken by Vittorio Sella and serves as a prelude to a major traveling exhibition. Sella was a consummate photographer who photographed the mountains he climbed as well as the flora, fauna, people and architecture that he encountered along the way.

This is MAVUNO’s 14th annual exhibition, featuring artwork created by emerging and accomplished African American artists and artists whose work celebrates African American culture. This year’s exhibition is inspired by the last 2 lines of the late Lucille Clifton’s poem, Won’t You Celebrate with Me, “Come celebrate with me the fact that everyday something has tried to kill me, and has failed!”
This exhibition is juried by Vanessa German, an award winning, multi disciplinary artist. A performer and sculptor, German creates contemporary power figures inspired by the everyday extraordinary might of the human spirit. The theme, Come Celebrate with Me, invites artists to visually acknowledge, express and exhort the grief, pain, sorrow, and triumph and transformation of our stories. From ... ( Read more)
