Though one works in watercolor and the other in oil, two artists whose work is on display at Crossings through the month of June share a common goal to capture light and color over photo-realistic renderings of landscapes and objects. A reception for the artists' "Light in the Moment" show is Sat., June 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
HeeJune Shin of Rochester and Wendy Westlake of Zumbrota each say that the “truth” they seek to capture in a work has to do with the colors brought out by the play of light on a tree or pond.

June is an exciting month at Angora Gallery this year, with three memorable exhibitions to get the summer off to a great start. The Manifestation of Milieu shows artists taking the familiar and adding a sense of the unusual to it, with each work of art becoming a window into a world similar to ours, but where anything seems possible. In Pulse of Abstraction, a feeling of energy, movement and fulfilling life infuses the works, reaching out to touch the audience and encourage us to respond with courage and conviction. In Kaneko Johkoh's solo exhibition, thoughtful consideration merges with an attractively impulsive method to create Sumi ink paintings of power and potency. The exhibitions open on June 4, 2013 and continue until June 25, 2013, with an opening reception on the evening of Thursday, June 6, 2013. Entrance is free and art lovers are invited to attend and refresh themselves with inspiring, evocative art.

The weather is heating up, and so is the atmosphere at Agora Gallery as we present art that has the ability to inspire and energize. The French Perspective: Contemporary Art from France features artworks that seem to have a life of their own, infused as they are with the passion and power of the artists who created them. Delightfully poised between the simplicity of frankness and the complexity of a conscious awareness of the world, the works speak in a language that is both compelling and persuasive. In Pathway to Abstraction, artists glory in the wonder of life and their own comprehension of it, passing on a message of optimism and understanding to us through their work. These works will capture your attention and enthrall your emotions, bringing you in to become an active interpreter of what you see. Sensorial Realms introduces us to a sense of mystery that seems to infect and enliven the banal and the everyday. The essence of creativity animates every ... ( Read more)
